Been investigating materials for more sculptural versions of photographs to parallel the 2 dimensional work for sometime. I came across porcelain and it’s a stunning material direct from the earth. The process is long involving preparing flat plates which are then fired at approx. 1200ºc. Using homemade pigments I then paint directly onto the ‘biscuit’ porcelain, fire it a second time at approx. 1280ºc. The heat deforms both porcelain and image, chance is an invaluable contribution.
